Halloween 2011

The holiday season has officially been kicked off with Halloween!

Another teacher and I are Student Council Sponsors at my school, and this was our first dance of the year to host our annual costume themed "Boo Bash." I initially ordered a costume online, but when it came in, it was like every other female costume: way too hoochie, especially to wear to a school function. I decided to go for Plan B, a stolen idea from pinterest. Can you guess what we are?

Paper, Rock, Scissors! :)

Brian was super sweet to bring the boys up to the dance to get their groove on. I was afraid it might be too loud, but Deacon absolutely loved it! (Notice him behind us in the pic above.)

Carson had fun dancing and eating pizza too.

On Halloween, we passed out glow bracelets (from Michael's for only $1 for 15, plus my teacher discount of 15% off ). Deacon stayed with Brian to pass them out, while the neighbors and I took the kids trick-or-treating.

By the time we rounded the corner back to our house, Carson's bag was overflowing, so he had to take off his mask and use it to collect candy in!

He has enough candy to last him a while!

Back to Teaching

This picture illustrates my transition back to work perfectly:
Luckily, the month of August is over and I am slightly rested from a three day weekend. I'm hoping this week feels a little less chaotic and I can stay chipper all day, all week! (And catch up on my blogging!)

Door Decorating

This week at school we had a door decorating contest. We had extravagant plans for a door, but after doing some pricing, realized we were going a little crazy. So the day before the contest we combined ideas and made a candy land theme. My team is so awesome and crafty, that when we came together this was the result:

And we got first runner up! Not bad, especially because Ms. Breaux's room was adorable, and her students worked hard to come up with it, including some of our staff and administrators:

3rd place went to Mrs. Berry's room:

Honorable mention goes to our math department and their incorporation of math into the holiday season! "Ho" to the 3rd power:

Mrs. Olive's "Baby" squared (she is due with twins!)

Some of the other classes turned out cute too!

Adopt-A-Family

Have I mentioned how much I love my job?? I am reminded on a regular basis how wonderful it is. This week demonstrated the hearts of children and really gave our school the chance to get in the Christmas spirit of giving.

Our church has a table set up every year for adopting a family. I am a Student Council sponsor at my school and we decided that this would be our service project for the semester. We selected a family with five children:

Age: 4 Sex: M
Hobbies/Interests: Coloring, Dragons, Dinosaurs, & Cars

Age: 5 Sex: M
Hobbies/Interests: Drawing, Super Mario, Toy Story

Age: 10 Sex: F
Hobbies/Interests: Drama, Dance, Littlest Pet Shops

Age: 11 Sex: M
Hobbies/Interests: Hunting, Fishing, Soccer

Age: 15 Sex: F
Hobbies/Interests: Soccer, Reading, i-tunes

We gave these details to all the students at our school, along with names and clothing sizes, and held a competition for the class who brought the most items in. Unlike many distributions the students are given, which end up on the floor or trash at the end of class, they were held onto and memorized. You could walk into a number of classrooms in our school and students could give you names and descriptions of the children.

Yesterday was the deadline and the winning class brought in 28 items. Second place brought in 27 items... Our tiny Christmas tree literally overflowed with gifts, and throughout the day parents delivered more to the office. We received over 100 presents!! We have so many gifts that we are able to give to other families as well!
